Melbourne 4x4 Show tips safety
19 July 2010
With thousands of Australians injured while experiencing the great outdoors each year, Melbourne’s National 4x4 & Outdoors Show, Fishing and Boating Expo will put a major focus on safety at this year’s event.
The exhibition will showcase a range of safety products and give expert advice on the best way to strike a balance between adventure and wellbeing.
Mark Petersen from the National 4x4 & Outdoors Show, Fishing and Boating Expo says, “It’s vital that people are using the correct equipment and are educated on traveller safety.”
“Outdoor adventures continue to become more popular and it’s great to see technology continuing to support new and safe products and services to assist people with their travels.
“It’s also vital that the family and friends of those travelling are well-informed when it comes to safety matters,” explained Petersen.
Major show supporter ExplorOz promotes self-drive tourism in Australia by actively issuing information on traveller safety, including road condition reports and survival tips.
The event will promote the companies new service EOTrackMe, a device that uses a mobile phone, web browser or GPS to track and display traveller movement in real time.
The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) will be aboard for the second time this year promoting their range of distress beacons for land adventures, boats and aircrafts.
The AMSA received over 6000 distress calls in 2009 through both the 406 MHz Cospas Sarsat System and another 3000 through telephone and radio.
With over 166,000 distress beacons registered, the AMSA believes it is crucial that adventurers list their personal details before embarking on any outdoor journey.
“Registration provides valuable information that will help rescuers get to you faster, bringing the assistance you may require,” stated an AMSA spokesperson.
“Joining is free, and it is one of the best methods for gaining assistance in remote areas when all other methods have failed.
“We had a terrific response at the last show, with many people interested in learning more about beacons and the registration process,” the AMSA continued.
The show will have huge range of exhibitors with a focus on safety including direction experts, Hema Maps, who will display their new Hema Navigator GPS which provides a comprehensive 4wd and topographical mapping system.
Exclusive Tyres will have professional staff on-site to give expert advice on tyre knowledge and safety, and will display a full range of tyre sets for all conditions.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to gain expert advice while travelling as a passenger on the 4wd test track. The qualified instructors will give specialist 4wd tips, including the best safety modifications for a range of vehicles.
A large range of vehicle protection systems will be on display from brands such as ARB, TJM, IronMan, East Coast Bull Bars and more.
