Vermont resident to go bald for Royal Flying Doctors Service

Friends and Family will be forgiven for not recognising Terry Pedersen next month with the Vermont resident set to shave off his trademark beard and hair to raise money for the Royal Flying Doctors Service (RFDS) at the National 4x4, Off-Road, Fishing and Outdoors Expo at the Melbourne Showgrounds on September 6, 2009.

After three decades of sporting a beard Pedersen has decided to shave it all off to raise money for the RFDS and the valuable medical services they provide to residents and visitors to regional and remote Australia.

Pedersen said as a four wheel drive, fishing and camping enthusiast he felt the RFDS was a worthy organisation to support just in case he or any of his friends should need medical attention while exploring the outback.

"There is a very worthy organisation that does a very important job throughout Australia, which does not get a lot of media attention focused on it, so I thought I would try my little bit to help raise some money for the RFDS even though I personally have never been in the situation to require their services," Pedersen said.

"After about 34 years of always having a furry face, I plan to shave it all off. As well, I will take all of my hair off to be completely naked up top. This is a dramatic change for myself and my family, who have only seen pictures of me without my beard," Pedersen said.

"I hope everyone will dig a little deeper as much as they can afford to donate to the RFDS."

Along with shaving his beard and hair, Pedersen is also organising a silent auction with exhibitors at the National 4x4, Off-Road, Fishing and Outdoors Expo donating products and services which will go under the hammer to raise money for the RFDS.
