Four wheel drive challenges to entertain Melbourne crowds

A selection of four wheel drive owners will be tested at the National 4x4, Off-Road, Fishing and Outdoors Expo with three new activities to be hosted at Melbourne Showgrounds on September 4- 6, 2009.

The confirmation of the contests comes as the event readies for its move to the Melbourne Showgrounds with the outdoor venue providing show organisers with the resources required to stage the All Terrain Short Course Challenge, the Auspit Bull Pull (Tug-of-War) and 4WD Show and Shine.

The All Terrain Short Course Challenge will pit vehicles and drivers against each other on a purpose built course to see who can negotiate obstacles quickly and safely. Over the last two months, Simon Christie from 4WD TV has been searching for the best vehicles in Victoria to compete in the contest which will reward those drivers which are capable of handling the conditions.

The Auspit Bull Pull is an event which has a touch of Australian larrikinism with the competition modelled age old game of tug-of-war. Drivers and vehicles will go head-to-head in the test of muscle, grunt and skill as each aims to pull their competitor backwards across the line.

Entries are also now open for individuals wishing to enter the 4WD Show and Shine, which will see vehicles sporting the latest in after market accessories marked against each other over a range of categories including functionality and look.

Mark Petersen from the National 4x4, Off-Road, Fishing and Outdoors Expo said the four wheel drive challenges will complement a range of additional activities which will also take place alongside the premier fishing, camping and touring event.

"With the event moving to the Melbourne Showgrounds we now have the resources available to host a number of competitions which will showcase the full capabilities of four wheel drives," Petersen said.

"The All Terrain Short Course Challenge, Bull Pull and Show 'n' Shine are all part of the comprehensive entertainment program for the event which includes Stadium Enduro X, Monster Truck, Wheelie Jeep and FMX demonstrations."
